Mandate of KVK
KVK is imparting knowledge and skill in the field of Agriculture and allied science with the ultimate goal of transforming agricultural technology to farmers for improving economic condition through enhancing their productivity and production. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, JAU, Amreli started in the year 2005 has sereved as a taple of agriculture for farmers.
The knowledge and skill imported by KVK is very important to the farmers in various technologies like improved variety, method demonstration new techniques, seed treatment etc.
Mandate of KVK, Amreli
• On-farm testing to identify the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming situation
• Application of technology/products through assessment, refinement and demonstration for adoption. To achieve the mandate effectively, the following activities are envisaged for each KVK:
• Frontline demonstrations to establish its production potentials on the farmers fields.
• Training of farmers, farm women and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural concepts and technologies.
• To work as Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the district.
• Produce and make available technological products like seed, planting material, bio agents, young ones of livestock etc to the farmers.
• Provide farm advisories using ICT, various social media platform and various applications based of agriculture.
• Organize extension activities to create awareness about improved agricultural technologies to facilitate fast diffusion and adoption of technologies in agriculture and allied sectors.
Functional Objectives of KVK, Amreli
• To impart training to the practicing farmers / farm women, rural youth and field level extension functionaries by following the method of “teaching by doing” and “learning by doing”.
• To organize field day and field visit to solve the farmer’s problem related to crop and pest management of standing crop at their farm.
• To plan and conduct survey of the operational area through Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) methods and characterize physical and human resources with special reference to identifying the technological and training needs of the farming community.
• To compile all relevant recommendations/ packages of practices for the district to be meaningfully utilized in the training programmes and the follow up extension activities.
• To Promptly demonstrate the latest agricultural technologies to the farmers as well as extension workers of State Departments of Agricultural Horticulture / Fisheries / Animal Science / Non Government Organization with a view to reduce the time lag between the technology generation and its adoption.
• To develop and maintain the campus farms and demonstrations units on scientific lines as the facilities for providing work experience to the trainees, dissemination of the latest technologies and also as a means to achieve financial sustainability in due course of time.
• To provide added training facilities of the area for home making and nutrition education for rural communities and gradually enlarging the training facilities to encompass other important area such as home/rural crafts and cottage industries with the requirements of the integrated rural development in collaboration with the concerned organizations.
• To back-up with training and communication support to the district level development department, viz. Agriculture / Horticulture / Fisheries / Animal Science and Non Government Organizations in their extension programmes.
• To implement all such schemes of the ICAR and other related organizations which intend to strengthen the training and technology dissemination programmes as well as follow-up extension activities of the Kendra.
• To undertake on-farm testing of the technologies developed by the National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) in agriculture and allied fields for their suitability and identifying constrains.
• To demonstrate the potentialities of various technologies recommend for adoption in maximizing yield per unit time and area under different resource conditions.
Priority thrust areas:
• Integrated Crop Management in major crops in crops like Cotton, Groundnut, Castor, Cumin, Wheat, vegetables, fruits, etc.
• Recycling of farm waste through composting, vermin compost, green manuring, etc.
• Efficient use of water by micro irrigation system, water harvesting structure, and water conservation techniques
• Reclamation of saline & alkaline soils
• Farm women empowerment by training in value addition, handicrafts, and small scale enterprises
• Promotion of arid horticulture fruit crops, Vegetables crops and flower crops growing
• Popularization of the mechanized technological know how
